fix that kick clipping!

The kick doesnt sound bad in the mix, but standing almost alone in that intro you can hear all kinds of ugly clipping dude, im guessing from the compression/limiter you have on it.

the clap hurts a bit with headphones too btw.

On my system the kick seems to be lacking sub too.

To me it seems like you need to work on your compression and mastering, everything is too maximized/distorted/compressed. Nuetral sounding mixes are possible in dubstep as well believe it or not.

Id give ya some tips on mastering buts its not my forte, just dont go so overboard with the master compression and make sure your song isnt clipping and sounds good before brickwalling the master or multiband compressing it.

But seriously fix that kick asap dude. The rest of the song is rather nice apart from that.

Go gettem tiger.

DLBeezy responds:

Thank you for your wise advice. It's one and a million on this site that anyone actually gives GOOD constructive feedback. I'll get on to that kick when I get my comp back. Plus, I am honored that you would take the time to listen to my song and critique it, and even give me a good score. You have made my day sir. <3

Welllll

Ok this is the third song ive heard using xkore's samples. (im pretty sure).

Its also the third time yall haven't even attributed him.

Overall the songs pretty good, the lower formants are a bit muddy and im not a fan of the higher ones (just me). Good ambiance goin on, good intro. Pretty solid all around.

KroweMusic responds:

Yeah I used a snare from one of his remix packs, but since he made the remix packs, I'm guessing he knows that people are gonna whats in them. Plus, they aren't technically "his" samples. He gets them from somewhere, too (Addicting Drums I think. Not 100% sure). So what if I took that snare sample from where he gets it from instead of from the remix pack? Would you still accuse me of using "his" samples? Yeahhhhhhh...

Plus, it's just one drum sample...lol. It's not like I'm stealing midi's from him and claiming that I made them. Plus, xKore even fav'd this song, so it's obviously not a big deal to him.

Glad you like the song, though. Your entry is quite nice as well :)

Again...

Second song in this competition ive heard that uses xkore's samples. (im pretty sure). Try attributing him next time.

Songs not that bad though, not a fan of the high formants but what ever.

dietsnapple135 responds:

I'm sure there's quite a few submissions in the contest ripping xKore. Since you commented in the contest about the percussion, I'll assume you mean my snare. 3 snares layered from the vengeance pack(which xKore uses, I'm sure), compressed, layered with white noise and recompressed. Not stolen, if you thinking it was stolen affected your score, please re-evaluate. If not, don't sweat it. Thanks.

Xkore samples......

Just sayin, you coulda attributed him.

Decibel responds:

IMSRYWUT? :p
Thanks for the 9 broham ;)

A Trip!

Production was excellent, I started off thinking this was gonna be out of my genre comfort zone, but wow i was wrong this whole song was a TRIP man. Seriously it took me places so chill.

InvisibleObserver responds:

Big thanks. Genre and tone wise I find the song pretty likeable, but I was (and still am) nervous as to 18 minutes being rather daunting to approach.

You have survived the gauntlet.

Not me cup of tea exactly...

Maybe layer that hat off the kick?(so the kick is clearer and doesnt sound liek a punchy high hat)
And the descending "waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaooow", could be turned down a bit and less frequent.(or just turn down the mids in it)
I found the drum patterns a little too awkward, not relaxing enough to be ambient and not groovy enough for DnB.

Favorite part was the deep sine bass, very beinaurly!

But thats my thoughts mostly subjective, kinda weird i just made an ambient/DnB song as well ^-^. Is this your RUNAGDM entry btw? Good work overall, watch out for solus!

RetromanOMG responds:

This won't be my contest piece, I just wanted to make something different (my actual entry is actually going to be my usual style cranked out to mind-bending extremes).

I will make a few changes to this song, though.

Definetly above average!

Close dude, all i can reccomend is a different clap; its what keeps this song kinda corny. The kick could be pumped just a tad. The bass is just right and everything else in the mix. The writing is also a little unoriginal(synths and chords). But they definetly evoke emotion!

Unoriginality should be the least of your problems though even though your mixing skills are really close to getting there; so this is when you should start worrying about unoriginality and developing your own style.(not saying im there yet either :P)

Ill be hearing ur next stuff bro ood work. ;)

TeHLoY responds:

I chose to use a common chord progression on purpose. I wanted to challenge myself on using something so common yet try to make this song unique.

Unfortunately, I don't see this song finished anytime soon. My computer is killing the sound quality, can't even do much at all.

My own style? I'm still learning how to program synths, so now most of my stuff sounds generic, and my melodies are often limited to simple arpeggios as it is hard to start a good melody without inspiration.

Meanwhile, my sample library is rather small, I'm often using identical samples for most of my songs. I'm still looking around for more samples, but for now, I can only modify my current samples by Eqing, layering, etc... But I might find a better clap sample, the one I used for this song is just a default fl studio sample that is heavily modified.

Tasty corn

Got some tasty wubs there, wish i had a sub. But yes that chromatic style is definetly tasty as well as the writing in the intro.

Just a a heads up(i never would take off points for this because i could just turn it down), its kind of loud.

The percussion is the biggest problem, coulda definetly used a little more mids in the kick and the snare a little louder.
But most of this is subject to opinion, good luck in RUNAGDM.

8.5/10

Breed responds:

I had no time to mix it, I pumped this whole track out in about 2 hours haha. Thanks for the nice review though!

Cheers!

im pretty sure,

this gets played when frodo leaves for elf land at the very end of LOTR

JUST SAYING

SuperGoodSound responds:

haha, they stole my idea maybe

Sick dude :)

mix seem s a little dull in some aspects though, but that could just be the bitrate. All the frquencies seem a lil clogged, boost your high in struments more, and your lows lower. and it could be the kick or some kind of percussion, the sound slike it has a mosquito high pitch feedback lul. But i had to concentrate on it to hear it.
Good luck dude, make good shit.

freakshowmusic responds:

Thanks for the review. You can download it HQ at http://www27.zippyshare.com/v/5041528 2/file.html , it sounds much better.
